Communication is a multi‑modal experience and may include spoken language, written language, sign language, gestures, or the use of a communication device. Multi‑modal communication (MMC) is an umbrella term that describes all of these methods. Creating a multi‑modal classroom environment is particularly important for students with speech, language or motor difficulties, as it supports authentic and independent communication and active participation. MMC also strengthens comprehension and connection within the classroom by providing multiple ways of learning and sharing knowledge.
